The MA Ninja Hawk & Eagle sUASs

Ninja Hawk & Eagle

The MA Ninja Hawk & Eagle are short range UAVs.

The vehicles can be pre-programmed to fly along pre-selected GPS way points with autopilot flight, and where the GPS waypoints can be updated from the GCS during the mission, or by manual take over at any time.

Missions

The system has been developed for surveillance operations.

The air vehicle can be operated to a range of around 10 – 20 km to collect real time imagery.

  • Chemical and radiation sensing
  • Communications relay
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Firefighting & infrastructure damage assessment
  • Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR)
  • Oil & gas pipeline monitoring
  • Power line inspection
  • Search & rescue operations
  • Sensor and systems aerial testing platform
  • Sovereign state border patrol
  • Weather mapping and research
  • Wildlife monitoring

Operational Concept

The system is an imagery asset equipped for daylight operation (night sensor payload is offered as an optional extra) to conduct reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

The system is packaged in a small container, within a trailer-launcher unit and it is typically operated by a team of 2 -3 operators.

Mission Planning

The GCS is capable of UAV mission route planning on the digital map using the following functions.

• Flight plan way point data is graphically entered.
• It is possible to edit old mission plans and store them on a disk for future use.
• Flight plans consist of legs such that each leg can be modified, added or deleted.
• Each leg is controllable in airspeed, altitude, and payload on/off control, and data link on/off control.
• Entry of up to 100 way points per flight plan.
• Mission flight plans loaded into the UAV before or during the flight

Flight Control Modes

The GCS shall provide the following UAV flight control modes.
• Autopilot Mode
• Manual control Mode
• Pre-programmed Mode
• Point Navigation Mode
• Return Home Mode

Digital Map Display

The GCS provides a digital map display and overlay of the following annotations on the map:

• UAV position
• Payload viewing footprint
• The trace of UAV flight
• Mission plan flight path
• Point Navigation Waypoint
• Notes

Real Time Image Display & Position Display

The Image Screen on the display unit provides an image display of the following:

• North direction vector
• GPS Coordinates
• Date (year, month, day)
• Airspeed
• Altitude

Touch Monitor & Panel

Ruggedized Tablet PC with stylus touch actuation for ease of operation.

Similar for fixed in-vehicle option.

Communication Unit

The Communication Unit consists of the UHF Modem and the 2.4 GHz receiver, image transmitter to control aerial vehicle and to receive image from aerial vehicle.

Digital Map

The system has the capability to load digital raster maps (CVRRG or CADRG) and the digital terrain elevation data (DTED) provided by the customer.

Coordinates and elevation of a selected point on the maps are displayed on the screen.

The system is able to select appropriate map and the scale to position air vehicle location at the center of the screen.
According to search area, map selection is done automatically without any need of operator involvement.

The system calculates the coordinates in UTM and geographical coordinate system.

The system is able to transform UTM and GP, MGRS coordinate system to each other and select different map scales.

Payload

The Payload system consists of the Camera (DLTV), Camera Controller for 1 single axis control and 2.4 GHz Transmitter/Antenna.

The 2.4 GHz Transmitter is very small and transmits analog image to PGCS.

Optional Development System Upgrades

• Joy-stick controlled camera movement
• Camera zoom facility
• IR camera facility
• Gyro stabilized camera platforms
• Extended mission range and duration
