MA THOR Intel UAS

Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance UAS

MULTI-MISSION DIVERSE-PAYLOAD VEHICLE

The MA THOR Intel is a versatile vehicle used in missions as diverse as remote sensing and mapping, land and maritime border patrol, sea and land search and rescue, long endurance intelligence and reconnaissance, surveillance of oil and gas installations, inspection of natural disasters, ecological work, environmental monitoring, wildlife surveys, precision agriculture aerial mapping, weather monitoring, communications relay, law enforcement, fire fighting, and many other. The vehicle accommodates a large variety of payload.

PERFORMANCE

An efficient aerodynamic design gives best in class performance. Optimized for endurance, the MA THOR Intel with 17 liters of fuel volume and a fuel injected engine will provide 7 hrs endurance. The optimised high-lift flap system provides stall speeds of 50 km/h. Excellent flight handling qualities due to a well-designed V-tail and elerudder geometry.

SAFETY & RELIABILITY

Developed to the highest standards of safety and airworthiness. The MA THOR Intel UAS features a fully redundant flight avionics and electronics architecture and redundant flight control surfaces.

COST-EFFECTIVENESS

The MA THOR Intel UAS is an ideal cost-effective solution for any type of persistent ISR, area dominance, ground support, and maritime patrol mission. Designed for minimal maintenance, the MA THOR Intel UAS is a highly mission effective system and a system with low life cycle costs.

AIRCRAFT CONFIGURATION

  • Airframe

The MA THOR Intel is a high-wing twin-tail-boom aircraft. The airframe is reinforced graphite, Kevlar and epoxy resin and it is sealed for long life in hot and humid environments. The airframe can be fitted with a rail or pod under each wing for carriage of external stores.

  • Aerodynamics

Enhanced aerodynamics and flight stability. The wings use a high-lift airfoil, have an aspect ratio of 10, and are fitted with wing fences, Hoerner tip, Fowler flaps (max. deflection 30°), Gurney flaps, and vortex generators. The wings feature 5° dihedral, 5° geometric washout, 5° taper, and sweepback.

  • Engine

A 4-stroke twin-opposed cylinder engine mounted at the rear fuselage drives a two-blade fixed-pitch propeller and provides high vehicle endurance.

  • Payload

The vehicle accommodates a variety of payloads: Electro optical and infrared cameras, gyro stabilized daylight and low light cameras, laser designator, range finder, miniature aperture radar, radar altimeter, automatic video tracker, nuclear biochemical sensors, meteorological appliances, laser detector tracker pod, ejectable items (chaff, leaflets, flares, communication jammers).

ENGINEERING

MODULAR DESIGN

All components of the air vehicle are easily removable and interchangeable. The wing splits in three 2.0-2.5 m sections and the V-tail splits in two parts. High-end industrial grade push-pull connectors are installed in tail-boom joints as standard. Oversize access covers are equipped with DZUS type 1/4 turn quick fasteners. Tail-booms are equipped with quick release aluminium joints.

LANDING GEAR

Heavy Duty Landing Gear. Land on unprepared fields. High shock absorbing capacity, large inflatable wheels.

Landing gear

ENGINE

Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) engine. Advanced fuel injection system.

GENERATOR

80 W Generator system. High efficiency and reliability. Includes 6 V and 12 V outputs, short circuit protection, integrated Li-Polymer charger, integrated current sensors and RS-232 connection for monitoring power parameters in real time.

FUEL TANK

7500 cc fuel tank. Large glass fiber fuel tank for maximum endurance. With carbureted engines, 10 hours endurance can be a chieved. With EFI engine 12+ hours can be achieved.

FUEL LEVEL SENSOR

Fuel level sensor for 7500 cc fuel tank. Precise fuel level sensor integrated inside the 7500 cc fuel tank. Essential for long endurance missions.

HEADER TANK FUEL SENSOR

The point level sensor in the header tank is a safety feature that detects the low fuel condition. Increases system reliability and indicates condition when the aircraft needs to land immediately.

4-SERVO V-TAIL

Each tail plane control surface is split in two equal sides, each having its own servo-total of 4 servos for the tail plane. This option in creases reliability of the system in case of a tailplane servo failure.

HEATED PITOT-STATIC TUBE

Pitot-Static tube provides both dynamic and static pressure measurements.

RUGGED TRANSPORTATION CASES

Rugged and water tight transportation case for maximum protection of equipment. Supplied with additional internal case for small components, sparebolts, screw drivers and tools.
